From its beginnings the Santa Maria de la Valdigna Monastery was an influential cultural centre in the Kingdom of Valencia. All along the valley, the then Muslim settlements would soon find themselves under its jurisdiction: Simat, Benifairó, Tavernes, La Xara, Alfulell, L’Ombria, Massalalí and Ràfol d’Almunia.
Mara Aranda and the group Capella de Ministrers, with their director Cales Magraner, alongside musicians Aziz Samsaoui and J Martinez all made their mark on this place this weekend, on the Jewish Sabbath, brought together at UNESCO’s Mulatqa event, in celebration of the three cultures in this corner of the Mediterranean.
