Roots music, on show at the Sala Berlanga in Madrid from May 2nd to 4th
The SGAE Foundation has organised the ‘Archipiélagos Sonoros’ Festival with the aim of promoting modern folk as a symbol of our cultural identity. It’s an idea that the foundation has been running with for several years with festivals based around different musical styles.
The concerts that make up the ‘Archipiélagos Sonoros’ Festival are to be held at the Sala Berlanga, Calle Andrés Mellado, 53 in Madrid. Entry fee: €5 on the door. Under the motto, ‘each musician is an island’, the festival will bring together Mara Aranda & Solatge, Olga Cerpa & Mestisay, and Jayme Marques, who will lead a tribute to the Brasilian singer-songwriter Dorival Caymmi on what would have been his hundedth birthday.
The festival kicks off on May 2nd with Mara Aranda’s concert. Mara is one of the most renowned voices on the 21st Century Spanish World Music scene, with a long carrer behind her, starting in the 90s and most recently bringing out the highly acclaimed albums ‘Deria’ (2010), ‘Lo testament’ (2013), voted ‘Best Folk Album 2013’ by the Colectivo Ovidi Montllor (COM).
