MARA ARANDA’S MOST INTERNATIONAL PROJECT GETS A NEW BREATH OF LIFE WITH HER LATEST ALBUM, ‘SALAM’

Salam’  is the name given to the latest album by Mara Aranda’s most international of groups, Al Andaluz Project, after nearly a decade putting together the music of the three cultures that gave us the jewels: ‘De deus et diabolus’ (Galileo-mc, 2008), ‘Al-Maraya’ (Galileo-mc, 2010), and the third instalment, the live DVD recorded in Munich, which includes never-before-released tracks from ‘Abuab Al Andaluz’ (Galileo-mc, 2012).‘Salam’ brings to us the three cultures in all their glory, together with the links to other styles that only helped them to enrich. From the Sephardic style we bring you the songs of daily life, of a simple village folk who share in festivals and celebrations, and also the intimacies of their home life. The songs, the rhythms and the feelings of a people have been transmitted orally down the generations, finally reaching us today. From the Moorish tradition of Al Andalus we bring you popular pieces that speak of the joy of a people; and also more classical Arabic pieces, virtuous texts that bring us closer to a people for whom music and poetry were two of the highest forms of expression, used to bring them closer to God.

And from the Mediaeval European tradition, we’ve brought two Trobador pieces to life, linked in their origins to the Arabs, inheriting from them style and contents of the poetry of Al Andalus.
